How to Adopt

Thank you for considering adopting one of our animals into your forever family! More importantly, thank you for adopting a rescue animal!

When adopting through Animal Justice League, we want to make the process as transparent and easy as possible. Here is what you can expect:

  1. Once you find a cat or dog that you're interested in adopting, the first step is to fill out an adoption application. The application is available at the bottom of each pet's page. If you are not sure which specific animal, fill out a generic cat or dog application and we will help you narrow down options.
  2. After receiving your application, we will review it and contact you to clarify any outstanding questions. Based on what we know about the animal, if you seem to be the right fit, we will schedule a meet-and-greet with the animal, as well as a home check.
  3. If the meet-and-greet goes well, and you still want to adopt, an adoption contract must be signed and an adoption fee paid.
  4. You are then free to take home your new best friend!

Things to Consider

At Animal Justice League, our first priority is to find the perfect family and fit for every dog or cat. We are looking for people or families who are willing to love this animal through its entire life. That means ensuring it gets regular vaccinations and prevention, a safe place to thrive, proper shelter, food and water, as well as training should it be necessary.

All of our animals are rescued, so age and breed are approximations; however, we do our best to estimate to the best of our ability based on experience and the advice of our veterinarians. We do not make any guarantees that the age or breed are the actual age or breed.

When bringing an animal home, an acclimation period is to be expected and needed, whether rescued or not. Our foster parents do a tremendous job and make huge efforts to ensure these animals are ready to go into their forever home, but it can be scary for an animal to come into a new environment. This can sometimes take 2 to 3 weeks, and could require a little extra effort on your part. We can provide articles on any issue, as well as make a recommendation on trainers.

Please note, submitting an application, does not mean you are guaranteed the right to that animal. We may have other applications being reviewed simultaneously.

How much is the adoption fee?

Animal Justice League's adoption fees — unless otherwise noted on an individual pet profile — are as follows:

  • Kittens/cats: $95
  • Puppies (12 months and younger): $275
  • Adult dogs (older than 12 months): $220

This fee must be paid to Animal Justice League at the time of adoption. We accept cash, check, credit cards, or PayPal.

What's included in the adoption fee?

Your fee includes: spay or neuter, at least three rounds of vaccines for puppies and kittens, or all necessary vaccines for adults, rabies certificate and a microchip.

If a dog is heartworm positive, Animal Justice League will cover all expenses related to heartworm treatment until a confirmed negative test.

The adoption fee also helps recover expenses incurred while in foster care such as medical, food, and transportation costs.
