From the very moment I saw the first facebook post about Matilda I knew I had to meet her. With the help of other rescue friends, we were able to make some special arrangements for her to come stay with our family for a week during her spay recovery. When Matilda walked through our door, every member of our family instantly fell in love with her. My husband, my daughter, our two dogs, who are often stand-offish at first with fosters, and of course me – instantly were her adoring subjects and she was holding court in our home. She never made a fuss, she just wanted to spend every moment near us, and we were happy to oblige. Just days after meeting Matilda she had complications from her spay, and she passed unexpectedly. We were devastated. In such a short time she had become one of us, an important part of our family, and then in the blink of an eye she was gone. I don’t think any of us have ever felt the loss of an animal so deeply. Through our tears and shared memories, and as we witnessed our daughter and fur babies grieving in such profound ways, my husband and I realized that while time wasn’t on our side Matilda was without a doubt meant to be part of our family, and posthumously decided to adopt her. We’re so grateful that we got to be part of her life. You’re one of a kind Matilda. Cross that Rainbow Bridge knowing that your family loves and misses you. Rest peacefully sweet girl.
