Phoenix started his life as part of a large cat colony in the Heights, battling the heat and hoping for enough food and water to make it through the day. He was initially supposed to be trapped, neutered, and released back into the colony, but we could tell that this gentle giant was just craving pets and love – there was no way we could release him back outside. Since we scooped him up Phoenix has been getting used to (and loving!) indoor life. He is an energetic boy and loves to explore his surroundings, but he is also first in line for pets and snuggles when you walk through the door. He is still a little bit shy around new people and places but it doesn’t take long before he gets comfortable and struts around like he owns the place. Phoenix has a presence about him – he’s got a larger athletic frame, he’s an incredible jumper, and now that he’s been introduced to toys he is a BIG fan and his kitten side is really starting to show. He is a very gentle little guy despite his “cool cattitude”. He gives head butts to every cat he comes across and has even been known to groom some of his kitten buddies. When it’s wet food time he will stand back and let everyone else eat first, even though he absolutely loves his food and treats. He is truly a wonderful big baby. You can’t help but notice his soulful little eyes when you meet him, and you can tell that he’s had a tough start to life and is so glad to be safe and sound, well-fed, and loved. He is almost pure ginger tabby coloring except for a tiny little patch on his chest and a few of his little toes.. it looks like he’s had a mani/pedi! Phoenix responds to his name and little hand gestures and when he’s called he will immediately come rub against you and beg for booty scratches. He is a big boy with an even bigger heart and we’ve only just scratched the surface! Once he finds his forever home, with just a little bit of patience this boy will become a giant cuddle bug… and he could be your forever companion.
