Meet Joanie! Joanie came to us after spending the first year of her life as a chain dog. Because she had little to no socialization with humans during that period, she can be shy when meeting people and takes a while to warm up. Joanie has been in her foster home for a few months and is learning that people can be kind. She’s also learning that with slow intros and positive encouragement, other dogs are fun to be around. Joanie is a sweet girl with a lot of love to give, but she isn’t always sure how to express it. She enjoys the company of her favorite people, but isn’t too much into snuggling (except for bedtime!). She LOVES to run around the backyard with her furry foster siblings and follows their cue for when it’s time to go inside. She absolutely needs to go to a home with other confident and non-reactive dogs that can show her the ropes. Her ideal forever family should be patient, experienced with skittish dogs, and have a secure, fully fenced yard. She cannot be reliably handled, so routine and clear expectations are important. Joanie is a flight risk and therefore cannot be considered for apartment or patio homes. Joanie is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative. She is potty trained and will kennel well, but does not go into the kennel on her own. Joanie is still working on being comfortable on a leash. She has met and enjoyed the company of kiddos, but has not met any cats.
